CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested and faces a felony charge in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience mart in Hiawatha.
Jacob M. Kimpton, 19, and an unidentified accomplice used a shotgun to rob a Quick Mart at 655 Robins Road about 10 p.m. April 29, according to a criminal complaint.
On the department's Facebook page, Hiawatha police posted surveillance images showing one person aiming a shotgun at the store clerk while another person wearing a Prairie High School football hoodie placed items into a backpack.
Police said Kimpton was identified as a suspect after the department received tips about his involvement. Officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 400 block of B Avenue NW in Cedar Rapids that they said belonged to Kimpton, according to the complaint. Police said they found merchandise stolen from the store, clothing worn during the robbery and parts of the shotgun that they said they suspect was pointed at the store clerk.
The complaint states Kimpton admitted his involvement to a witness, who then alerted police.
Kimpton is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony.
