Police make arrest in connection with brawl at Casey’s General Store

Jul. 11, 2018 2:47 pm
Cedar Rapids police say an arrest has been made in connection with a large brawl that occurred on July 3 at a Casey's General store at 1532 Ellis Boulevard and O Avenue NW.
Cedar Rapids Public Safety Spokesperson Greg Buelow said the department has received more than two dozen tips through social media and more than 40 phone calls since the incident occurred.
No information has yet been released about the person who was arrested.
Officers responded to the Casey's at about 10:20 p.m. on July 3 after an estimated 25 to 40 people entered the market and started screaming, yelling and shouting obscenities, according to the police department. During the melee, police said several fights broke out, while others stole items and damaged property. Police said some of the individuals involved assaulted store patrons.
The incident forced the store to close, police said.
Since then, authorities have focused on following up on leads and reviewing the store's security footage and identifying those responsible.
Buelow said the investigation is ongoing and police expect to make several more arrests in the coming days.
