An Independence man has been arrested after authorities said his young child ate a chocolate bar containing THC.
According to court records, the father found the child “passed out” on a couch Nov. 19 and soon thereafter discovered the empty wrapper for the chocolate bar in the kitchen.
The father described the 4-year-old child’s behavior as “high.”
The child was taken to the Buchanan County Health Center and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Police were notified, and Independence officers obtained a search warrant for the home at 503 Enterprise Court and found 10 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 3 grams of marijuana, a broken bong and other drug-related items, according to court records.
Jack Thurman Klein, 26, was arrested on counts of child endangerment with bodily injury, possession of psilocybin with intent to distribute, violation of the drug tax stamp act and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
