Police: Coralville woman attacks driver with brass knuckles

IOWA CITY - A 30-year-old Coralville woman is facing a slew of charges - including assault meant to cause serious injury - after police said she rammed her car into another woman's and then beat her with brass knuckles.

Shaneka Nashea Alexander was arrested late Tuesday on suspicion of running her vehicle into the victim's vehicle just after midnight Saturday near 950 Boston Way in Coralville, according to an arrest report. An officer reported Alexander then exited her vehicle, approached the victim's door, and told her to get out.

The victim did, and Alexander is accused of pummeling her with brass knuckles worn on her right hand - hitting her repeatedly in the face and head, according to the report. The victim told officers Alexander hit her 'until she got tired,” police reported.

The alleged assault left the victim with cuts to the face and head and swelling near the eye.

Before leaving the scene, according to police, Alexander yelled at the victim, 'Tell that to your mama.” Officers issued a warrant for Alexander's arrest and took her into custody days later.

She faces charges of causing damage to a vehicle, reckless driving, going armed with intent - a Class D felony - and assault with intent to inflict serious injury.

She's being held in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of a $12,500 cash-only bond. She has a preliminary hearing June 8.

The day before the alleged assault, Alexander was arrested on a warrant for third-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and assault causing injury. Police said on May 11, Alexander assaulted a man outside the US Bank at 506 10th St. in Coralville, entered his car, and took his cellphone and keys.

The assault broke the victim's $700 glasses and cut his face - prompting officers to issue a warrant for her arrest, which they executed May 25.

Alexander has a long criminal history in Iowa, according to an online database. In 2012, she was convicted of felony burglary and ordered to complete an anger management class in lieu of prison.
