Police chase ends in fatal crash in Marion

A Marion man was killed when the car he was driving hit a house Tuesday morning.
Marion police attempted to pull over 30-year-old Matthew Gates at 1:11 a.m. in the 2400 block of 10th Street. Instead of stopping, Gates fled from police. The chase came to an end when Gates' car left the roadway and hit a house at 1160 Country Club Drive.
Police said Gates died at the scene. The occupant of the house was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Department.
