A Center Point man who was taken into custody Thursday after turning himself in at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was wanted after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s dad’s house Wednesday and stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
Riley Young, 30, is charged with first-degree burglary, willful injury resulting in bodily injury, and two counts of fifth-degree criminal mischief.
According to a criminal complaint, Young broke into the Center Point residence of his ex-girlfriend’s dad at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday. He had messaged her dad earlier in the day saying he wanted to kill the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, who was in the house with her dad. Young had also sent a message stating he was going to damage the new boyfriend’s car, which he did before breaking into the house.
Young entered the house, located at 1320 Franklin St., by breaking a windowpane on a door and forcing his way inside. A fight broke out inside the residence, during which Young used a knife to slash and stab the new boyfriend in the face, causing significant blood loss and the need for immediate medical attention, the complaint states.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office put out a news release Wednesday asking the public to help locate Young. He turned himself in at the sheriff’s office Thursday, and had his first appearance in court on Friday. He’s being held in the Linn County Jail on a cash-only $50,000 bond.
