Center Point-Urbana High School students and staff took part in an intruder drill Wednesday, going through the steps of what to do if an active shooter entered the school.
The school performs the drills, which they started doing five or six years ago with the help of officers from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, a few times each school year. Students say the drills are effective at forcing them to think through an intruder scenario.
At the high school, four drills are planned each year. During the drills, each high school classroom is given a scenario and the location of a hypothetical shooter, then has minutes to formulate a plan of action.
