CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids police blocked off 32nd Street NE from Oakland Road to Center Point Road NE Thursday morning as they investigated a domestic disturbance allegedly involving a weapon.
Police were called to 1640 32nd St. NE at 10:35 a.m. Thursday for a report of a disturbance between a 38-year-old man and his 19-year-old son. The initial report indicated the father was armed with a shotgun and was threatening his son, which prompted a large police response.
Police found a shotgun inside the home, but it was still inside a case. The weapon was removed for 'safe keeping,” said Sgt. Steven Yardley. Police said there were conflicting reports as to whether the shotgun was ever displayed, and officers did not see it displayed.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Both men were removed from the home and taken in for questioning. As of Thursday afternoon, only the father, Godfrey Mitchell, was charged with any crime. He faces one count of interference with official acts for being uncooperative with officers during their investigation.
