Officials say man fought deputies at Iowa City hospital

An Iowa City man is accused of fighting several deputies and attempting to escape them multiple times.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports 38-year-old Christopher Lenz was a patient Friday at Mercy Iowa City. A criminal complaint says medical staff was evaluating Lenz when he lunged at a deputy and tried to remove the deputy's handgun from its holster.

The deputy used a Taser to stop Lenz. He was arrested and put in a cell, where police say he continued to try to get away. Police say Lenz rushed past the door of his cell and pushed a deputy against the wall. He also attempted to punch another deputy.

Lenz faces charges that include assault and disarming a peace officer of a dangerous weapon. Online records do not list an attorney.
