NW Cedar Rapids house fire sends woman, dog to hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS - A house fire that investigators said was intentionally set Friday sent a woman to the hospital and a dog to a veterinary clinic.

A single-story home in the 3300 block of Ravenwood Terrace NW caught fire shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Firefighters found a 54-year-old woman standing in a doorway. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center and treated for serious injuries, including smoke inhalation, according to public safety spokesman Greg Buelow.

Crews entered the house and put out the fire. A dog found inside was transported to an emergency veterinary clinic.

Bedrooms sustained extensive damage, with smoke and water damage throughout the house. Smoke alarms were not working, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
