No one injured in Friday night shooting in Cedar Rapids

May. 2, 2022 3:30 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night in the 2100 block of Bowling Street SW. No injuries were reported, according to a news release from the department.
Police were called to the area at 6:41 p.m. Friday. Investigators believe occupants of an SUV and a black vehicle exchanged shots, the release states.
Officers found shell casings near the driveway of a business in that block and discovered bullets had struck the east side of the Hy-Vee at 20 Wilson Ave. SW.
Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman said in the release that many shootings in the community go unsolved because witnesses usually aren’t willing to talk with police about what happens in these incidents.
“These reckless, irresponsible acts directed at individuals are putting the public at risk and cannot be tolerated. We continue using every resource at our disposal to successfully bring those responsible to justice, but the fact remains, we can’t be everywhere at once and cooperation with police would result in a much safer community,” Jerman said in the release.
