Motorcyclist seriously injured after collision with SUV in Cedar Rapids

A driver of a motorcycle was seriously injured Thursday after a collision with a sports-utility vehicle near the intersection of Edgewood Road and O Avenue NW.

According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, at 4:31 p.m. officers were dispatched to the previously mentioned intersection for a report of an SUV versus motorcycle accident.

As officers arrived on scene, they confirmed that the collision had occurred and discovered the driver of the motorcycle lying in the roadway suffering from a serious injury.

Officers provided care for the motorcyclist on scene until they were relieved by emergency medical personnel who transported the individual to a hospital for treatment, according to a release.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and according to the release officers have closed O Ave NW from Edgewood Road east bound until the conclusion of the investigation.
