More snow on the way starting Monday afternoon

Another winter storm is expected to dump up to 8 inches of snow starting Monday afternoon in the Corridor, according to forecasters.

The storm also will bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning until 9 p.m. Tuesday for the region including Linn and Johnson counties.

'Travel could be very difficult,” the weather service warned. 'Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.”

According to the weather service, snow and freezing drizzle are expected to start about 3 p.m. Monday in the Corridor.

Both Iowa City and Cedar Rapids are within a line that forecasters predict will bring 6 to 8 inches of snow by Tuesday night. During the day Monday, forecasters expect 1 or 2 inches of snow and perhaps some light glazing ice. The majority of the snowfall is expected to come overnight after sunset.

Wind gust of up to 20 mph are forecast for Monday, with gusts growing to about twice as strong Tuesday.

Highs both days are expected to be near 30 degrees. Monday's low is forecast to be 27, but the low Tuesday drops to only 7 - with wind chills reaching 5 below.
