MARION — A routine disturbance call in Marion led to the arrest of a man suspected of murder in Illinois, per a report from the Marion Police Department.
Court documents state officers responded Friday to a call about “a disturbance involving an intoxicated male” in the 1100 block of 12th South Street. There, they made contact with 56-year-old Christopher C. Maxwell.
When asked by officers, Maxwell allegedly provided a false name. A witness was able to provide officers with his true identity, however, and court documents state Maxwell admitted to having given a fake name.
Officers used that information to ascertain that there was an active warrant for Maxwell’s arrest out of Illinois, where he is charged with first-degree murder, per a statement posted to the department’s social media page. Information around the charging circumstances was not publicly available as of Monday.
Maxwell was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant in Illinois, as well as a local charge of providing false identification information to officers. He is currently in custody at the Linn County Jail, pending extradition to Illinois.
