Marion man charged with stealing over $100,000 from mother

A Marion man was arrested Friday on charges that he stole more than $100,000 from his elderly mother while he was acting as her caregiver.
Franklin Charles White, 63, is charged with two counts of first-degree theft and one count of dependent adult abuse.
According to a criminal complaint, White spent $106,457.45 belonging to his mother, Clara White, 85, between January 2022 and June 2024 without her permission. His purchases included food, cigarettes, narcotics, hotel rooms, automobile loan payments, repairs and insurance.
A warrant was issued Sept. 27 for Franklin White’s arrest and he was taken into custody Friday. He had his first appearance in court over the weekend and is being held in the Linn County Jail on a cash-only, $25,000 bail.
