CEDAR RAPIDS — One of the two men killed in a shooting last week at a Cedar Rapids apartment complex was delivering a DoorDash order at the time of the shooting, according to his mother.
Myron Snyder and Maurice Brown, both 21 and both of Cedar Rapids, were found with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of 3960 Sherman St. NE when Cedar Rapids police responded to reports of gunshots at 8:21 p.m. Oct. 5.
Brown and Snyder died from their injuries. Another man, who police haven’t identified, also was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Snyder’s mother, Alicia Rogers, said Snyder was delivering for the restaurant delivery service when the shooting started.
“There was nothing that we were aware of that led up to the shooting. It was a normal delivery. My daughter and I were on the phone with him when it happened,” Rogers said.
Jenn Rosenberg, a DoorDash spokesperson, confirmed that Snyder worked on behalf of the company and it has been contacted by law enforcement about the shooting.
“This was a tragic loss of life and our hearts are with the victim’s loved ones. We are actively in touch with local law enforcement to support their ongoing investigation however we can,” Rosenberg told The Gazette in an emailed statement.
More than 99.99 percent of DoorDash deliveries take place without any safey-related incidents, according to the company. “We work collaboratively and proactively with law enforcement. Our team responds to any valid law enforcement request and provides information when needed, and proactively reaches out on cases where we feel we can be helpful,” the statement reads.
Rogers said she has talked with police but doesn’t know much yet about the motive for the shooting or how it started.
“People are hurting right now, and making speculations and things,” Rogers said. “It’s sad all the way around for everyone involved.”
Police have not yet released information about what happened leading up to the shooting. No arrests have been made.
Besides delivering for DoorDash, Snyder also worked part time with the Boys and Girls Club of the Corridor. The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids said it was raising money for the family, and a separate GoFundMe page had raised over $2,400 by Wednesday afternoon.
A fundraising page also was created on behalf of Brown’s family and for Cameron Leonard, who the GoFundMe page states is Brown’s brother and is in intensive care.
“Anything you can donate to this tragic incident would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. A prayer would be greatly appreciated as well,” the page states. It had raised $550 by Wednesday afternoon.
