Iowa reported 33 hate crimes in '08, FBI says

Cedar Rapids police handled three reported hate crimes last year, according to the FBI's annual hate crime statistics report, released today.

One of the incidents was based on race, two on religion, according to the report.

Iowa City recorded a single hate-crime report, motivated by race, as did the University of Iowa.

Iowa law enforcement agencies fielded 33 of the nation's 7,783 such incidents in 2008.
