Iowa City police ask for help after fatal shooting

Officials are asking for the public’s help in a fatal shooting Saturday night.
Police were called to the 1800 block of South Gilbert Street at 11:57 p.m., after gunshots were reported in the area. Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.
Police are interested in witnesses or video from the area around the time of the shooting. A news release states that the incident appears to be isolated.
The 1800 block of South Gilbert Street is located about two blocks south of Highway 6, between Stevens Drive and Southgate Avenue on the city’s south side.
