An Iowa City man was sentenced last week to nearly 17 years in a federal prison for child pornography.
Evan Robert Steinberg, 26, previously pleaded in U.S. District Court to one count each of distribution and receipt of child pornography.
According to evidence at sentencing, Steinberg received and distributed images of child sexual abuse. In December 2021, law enforcement seized electronic devices during a search of his Iowa City residence. A forensic examination of his electronic devices showed Steinberg used the devices to solicit, receive and distribute images and videos of child sexual abuse.
Steinberg’s five devices contained “hundreds” of images and videos of child pornography, including children under age 1, according court documents.
A judge sentenced Steinberg to 200 months in prison and also ordered him to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Steinberg also has to pay $8,000 in assessment fees.
This case was investigated by the University of Iowa Police Department and the Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice.
