A 62-year-old Iowa City man, previously convicted of receiving child pornography, was sentenced Friday to six years in federal prison.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that a social media account, later determined to be associated with Christopher Kevin Carpenter, received files containing child sexual abuse material, according to U.S. District Court documents.
During the investigation, law enforcement seized 10 electronic and storage devices during a search of Carpenter’s Coralville residence. A forensic examination of the devices and multiple cloud-based storage accounts showed that Carpenter had been receiving images and videos containing child sexual abuse material since 2001.
Carpenter also was ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term and ordered to pay $3,000 in victim restitution.
This case was investigated by the University of Iowa Police Department and the case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice.
