An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of third-degree sexual abuse of a child, coerced by a person in authority.
Rodulfo Castillo Mendez, 37, sexually abused the child in his residence on Riverside Drive in Iowa City in July 2023, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint doesn’t explain what position of authority Castillo Mendez held over the child, or how old the child was, but states that they were alone together at the residence when he sexually assaulted her and told her not to tell anyone.
A warrant was issued for Castillo Mendez’s arrest Tuesday, and he was taken into custody Wednesday. He had his first appearance in court Thursday and was being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $25,000 bail.
