An Iowa City man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he shot another man Monday night and escaped the scene on a stolen bike.
Francois Parker, 19, is charged with willful injury causing serious injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, trafficking in stolen weapons used in a crime, going armed with intent, second-degree burglary, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, possession of a controlled substance, and fifth-degree theft.
Police responded to the 800 block of Cross Park Avenue at about 11 p.m. Monday for a report of a shooting. A man who’d been shot in the back was taken to the emergency room where he had to undergo surgery, according to criminal complaints and a news release from the Iowa City Police Department.
Witnesses of the shooting told police that Parker had shot the other man. Parker left the scene on a stolen bicycle, complaints state.
A couple of hours later, at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 10 block of Gleason Drive for a report of a man who had broken into a house and attempted to steal a resident’s car keys.
Police searched the area and found Parker hiding behind a nearby residence. He had a stolen gun that matched the gun described by witnesses to a shooting, as well as ammunition and marijuana. He later confessed to shooting the other man in an interview with police, complaints state.
Parker had his first appearance in court Tuesday and is being held in the Johnson County Jail on multiple bonds totaling $110,000.
