Iowa City man charged with sexual abuse of 8-year-old

An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday on a charge that he sexually abused an 8-year-old child.
Carlos Eduardo Lara, 19, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse. According to a criminal complaint, he sexually assaulted the victim multiple times between the beginning of 2019 and the end of 2020, when the child was about 8 years old.
A warrant for Lara’s arrest was issued on Tuesday, and he was booked into the Johnson County Jail on Wednesday. A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the victim. He had his first appearance in court Thursday as is being held on a $25,000 bond.
