An Iowa City man was arrested last week on charges that, while armed with a gun, he broke into a house and threatened to shoot someone inside.
Walter Oliver, 40, is charged with first-degree burglary, going armed with intent, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, control of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender, control of a firearm by a felon, first-degree harassment, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, possession of carrying of a dangerous weapons while under the influence and public intoxication.
According to criminal complaints, an armed Oliver on Friday broke into a home in Iowa City, demanded money and told one of the people inside he was going to shoot him.
The occupants provided police with a description of Oliver. Police located him walking up the street from where the burglary happened, seemingly intoxicated, and he was arrested on the public intoxication charge.
Police then talked with Oliver’s brother — Deeshawn Oliver — who was at a home about four houses down from the home that had been burglarized. He attempted to conceal two weapons in a black bag, which police believe were the guns used in the burglary.
Deeshawn Oliver, 28, of Iowa City, also was arrested, and charged with accessory after the fact, person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon and harassment of a public official.
Both men were being held without bail in the Johnson County Jail.
