A fire caused $15,000 in damage to an Iowa City home Tuesday morning.
The Iowa City Fire Department was called to 2713 Hickory Trail at 8:15 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. Responding crews saw smoking coming from the rear of the two-story, wood frame home.
Crews located the main body of the fire in the wood deck and siding of the home and began an “aggressive fire attack,” according to a fire department press release. The fire was suppressed within 10 minutes.
Firefighters also entered the home and removed one pet. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
The cause of the fire was determined to be “careless disposal of smoking materials,” according to the news release.
