CEDAR RAPIDS — A woman has been charged with reckless use of a firearm causing bodily injury after a man was shot early Saturday morning, according to a Linn County criminal complaint.
Cedar Rapids police were dispatched at 3:55 a.m. to the 1600 block of F Avenue NW, with information that a man had been shot, according to a police department news release.
Officers found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound just above his hip, the criminal complaint stated. Cedar Rapids police, firefighters and Area Ambulance personnel provided medical aid before the man was transported to a hospital.
Diana L. Depolis was taken into custody at the scene and charged with reckless use of a firearm causing bodily injury, a Class D felony when not a serious injury, and carrying a dangerous weapon while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor. She is being held in the Linn County Jail on $17,500 bond.
In an unrelated case, her husband, Anthony Depolis, has been in custody in the Linn County Jail on $250,000 bond since last July. He is facing charges of attempted murder, willful injury and domestic abuse using a dangerous weapon for allegedly stabbing Diana in the neck after purchasing a knife “in anticipation of using it to kill his wife,” according to that criminal complaint.
Anthony Depolis has a court hearing Aug. 18 following a competency evaluation at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville. His jury trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 2.
