DES MOINES — Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Wednesday she is appointing Mark Fisher, a Cedar Rapids lawyer and magistrate, as the next 6th Judicial District judge.
“I’m greatly honored to be appointed by Gov. Reynolds and look forward to serving on the court and serving the community,” Fisher told The Gazette Wednesday.
Fisher, 41, said growing up in Fort Dodge he always “admired” the work of lawyers and judges and his goal was to become a judge someday.
He is currently a partner with Howes Law Firm and also has served as a magistrate judge since 2019. Before joining Howes, he was an associate and then became a partner with the Nidey, Erdahl, Fisher, Pilkington and Meier law firm from 2007-19.
He received his Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University in 2004 and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2007.
Fisher is married and has three children. They have lived in Cedar Rapids for 16 years.
Fisher fills a vacancy created when Judge Sean McPartland retired earlier this month. The 6th district includes Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Tama counties.
