A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man Tuesday night after authorities responding to a domestic disturbance in north central Iowa’s Sheffield ordered him to drop a gun he was pointing at them, state investigators said Wednesday.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the State Patrol said they had been asked to investigate the shooting.
According to the DCI, Franklin County Sheriff Office deputies were called about 9:42 p.m. Tuesday to a domestic dispute at 1124 W. Gilman Street in Sheffield. Responding deputies encountered a man pointing a weapon at a vehicle and at the deputies.
Deputies ordered him to drop the weapon, the DCI said. But he refused and a deputy shot him one time. The man — whose name was not released — died at the scene.
No officers were injured, the DCI said.
