Fire destroys Swisher home

Firefighters from departments in three counties responded to a house fire in Johnson County early Wednesday morning.
Eugene Beard, Deputy Chief of the Swisher Fire Department, said the call came in at 12:17 a.m. Wednesday for a structure fire in the 1700 block of Derby Avenue NW. He said the fire was already burning because a neighbor called it in, and not someone living at the house.
Beard described the house as a total loss, but said the State Fire Marshall would not investigate the cause because it was not considered suspicious. He said there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
In addition to Swisher, Beard said firefighters from Amana, Solon, Norway, Fairfax, Ely, Tiffin and North Liberty responded.
