CORALVILLE - A fire at a home where a woman was found deceased is not suspicious.
Coralville Fire Chief Dave Stannard said no foul play is suspected in the early morning fire at 704 Ninth Ave. The cause of the fire still is under investigation, Stannard said.
The woman found dead in the home, 60-year-old Mary Clanton, lived alone.
Firefighters responded to the single story residence shortly before 1 a.m. after a neighbor spotted the blaze. Responding units found heavy fire in the bedroom. The fire was under control in 30 minutes, according to the fire department. Stannard said the fire was confined to the bedroom, hallway and part of the attic, but there was heat and smoke damage throughout the residence.
Clanton's cause of death is unknown at this time. The State Fire Marshal's Office will be assisting in the investigation. No damage estimate is available.
