A family of four lost their cat Friday in a fire at their northeast Cedar Rapids home.
Firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the home at 1639 Hollywood Blvd. NE just after 3 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.
When firefighters arrived, the home's sun porch was on fire, and the fire had extended into the kitchen of the single-story ranch home.
No one was home at the time, but the family's cat was found dead inside the home after firefighters extinguised the blaze.
There was significant fire damage to the sun porch and kitchen, along with heat and smoke damage throughout the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
