Family dog dies, home a ‘total loss’ in Marion fire

A family dog perished and a home was severely damaged after a fire ripped through the Third Avenue residence on in Marion Wednesday.
According to a Marion Fire Department media release, at 6:32 p.m. units from the Marion Fire and Police Departments were dispatched for the report of a house fire at 2805 Third Avenue in Marion. Though Marion firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after their arrival, according to the release, the home was declared 'a total loss.”
The fire department reports that no residents were home at the time of the fire. However, the family dog was discovered dead at the scene.
According to the release, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
MidAmerican Energy, Alliant Energy, Area Ambulance, and the American Red Cross were called in to assist, according to the release.
