Family displaced after Cedar Rapids house fire

Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a house fire at 101 Evelyn Drive SW, at around 1 a.m. Sunday, which left residents displaced.
According to a news release, residents reported fire and smoke from the cold air return after being alerted by a smoke detector. Cedar Rapids Fire Department was presented with heavy smoke coming from behind the residence upon arrival.
Firefighters deployed hoselines and quickly extinguished the fire, according to the news release.
Fire from the basement level imposed significant heat to the subfloor and smoke affected all parts of the home. Although there were no injuries reported residents of the home were displaced, according to the release.
