Domestic abuser faces 10 years for possessing ammunition

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man who possessed ammunition after being convicted of domestic violence assaults and other felonies pleaded guilty Monday in federal court.
Daryl Harden, 41, was convicted in U.S. District Court of one count of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.
During the plea hearing, Harden admitted to possessing five rounds of ammunition on Jan. 11 of last year after being convicted of six offenses resulting in penalties of more than one year in prison, nine misdemeanor domestic violence offenses and being subject to two no-contact orders.
U.S. District Judge C.J. Williams will set sentencing after a presentencing report is prepared. Harden faces up to 10 years in federal prison and three years of supervised release following any prison term.
He remains in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, the centerpiece of the U.S. Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. The program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
