Des Moines man accused of sex abuse in Iowa City

Oct. 2, 2023 12:11 pm
A Des Moines man has been charged in Johnson County with third-degree sexual abuse.
Michael Dean Kazma was arrested early Monday morning and was released Monday after posting a $10,000 bond.
The sexual abuse took place on April 1, at what was then Kazma’s residence in Iowa City, according to a criminal complaint. Kazma’s residence is now listed in Des Moines in court records.
The adult victim was at Kazma’s residence, and Kazma wanted to engage in sexual activity but the victim said no. Kazma pushed the victim to the ground and performed a sex act on the victim without consent. The victim’s head hit the door and the floor while being pushed down, causing a concussion, according to the complaint.
The victim had texted a friend saying to call the police because the situation did not feel safe, the complaint states.
A no-contact order was filed Monday on behalf of the victim.
