Dead body pulled from Iowa River near Burlington Street Bridge in Iowa City

An investigation is ongoing after a dead body was pulled from the Iowa River on Thursday afternoon.
According to a media release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, at 12:30 p.m. Thursday pedestrians on the Burlington Street Bridge in Iowa City informed law enforcement of a person in the water just north of the bridge near the east bank of the river.
Johnson County Deputies responded to the scene with boats and recovery equipment. A deceased male, not yet identified, was pulled from the water and transported to the Decedent Care Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to the release.
An autopsy is pending completion as the investigation into the incident continues, according to the release.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office, Iowa City Police Department, University of Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Iowa State Patrol.
