CEDAR RAPIDS — The 6th Judicial District is accepting applicants for the next district judge as Judge Fae Hoover retires at the end of December after serving 16 years as a district judge.
A completed application must be delivered to the District Court Administration office at the Linn County Courthouse no later than 3 p.m. Dec. 15, according to the court’s notice. A copy also must be sent to each member of the 6th District Judicial Nominating Commission and their addresses and contact information are listed on the court’s website, https://tinyurl.com/3fuhb736.
No applications will be accepted after 3 p.m. on Dec. 15. Any application, together with supporting documents and letters of support, must be sent to each of the commissioners, the notice states.
Applicants must be members of the Iowa Bar Association and residents of the 6th district, which includes Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Tama counties. They also must be of an age that will allow them to complete an initial term of office and one regular six-year term of office before reaching age 72.
The current salary for a district judge is $158,056.
The commission will interview applicants Dec. 20. Following the interviews, the commission typically nominates two applicants and send those names to Gov. Kim Reynolds. She will then have 30 days to appoint one to the bench.
The judge appointed will serve an initial term of office and will stand for retention at the next general election held not less than one year following appointment.
