Coralville’s interim fire chief recommended for permanent role
Jun. 8, 2018 11:04 am
Coralville's interim fire chief should get the permanent job, the city's administrator said this week.
City Administrator Kelly Hayworth has recommended that Coralville Fire Prevention Officer Orey Schwitzer, who is currently serving as interim fire chief, be appointed formally to the position. Schwitzer took over as interim chief after David Stannard retired from the post on April 20.
A Coralville resident, Schwitzer joined the Coralville Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1995. He has served as volunteer lieutenant and volunteer captain before being promoted to fire prevention officer in 2003, according to a news release from the city.
'Orey's experience both as a volunteer firefighter and as an officer in the Coralville Fire Department have prepared him well for the job of chief,” Hayworth said in the release.
The Coralville City Council will review Schwitzer's appointment during a council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coralville City Hall, 1512 Seventh St.
