A Coralville woman has been charged with dependent adult abuse and first-degree theft after police say she stole more than $12,000 from a man she worked with when she was employed by an in-home dependent adult service provider.
Ieasha Miller, 33, worked for Superior Care between July 2023 and February 2024, during which time she worked with the alleged victim twice, on Aug. 24, 2023 and Aug. 31, 2023, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim, now a resident of an assisted living facility, learned of fraudulent activity on his bank account on Feb. 24, 2025. Bank staff, care staff and law enforcement looked into his account and found payments had been made to multiple companies to cover Miller’s rent and other bills, including Nest Property Management, Geico, US Cellular, Mediacom, Mid-American Energy and Santander Consumer USA, the complaint states.
Police confirmed with Nest Property Management that the payments made from the victim’s account were for Miller’s rent, and then performed a search warrant on her residence, where they found account paperwork for all the other companies she had made payments to. Officers issued subpoenas to each company for the payment records on Miller’s accounts, which confirmed that she made a total of 35 illegal transactions between Dec. 1, 2023 and Feb. 3, 2025, totaling $12,365.71.
A warrant was issued for her arrest on June 11, 2025, and she was taken into custody on Sunday. She had her first appearance in court on Monday and is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
