A 17-year-old from Coralville has been charged with sexual abuse after an Iowa City police officer saw him perform sexual acts in a car with a 13-year-old, authorities said.
Robinson Ariel Turcios Posadas was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a felony.
According to a criminal complaint, Officer Gabriel Cook was parked Thursday in the 1400 block of Dover Street in Iowa City conducting surveillance for an unrelated investigation. A maroon 2004 Honda CRV pulled onto the street and parked in front of the officer. The complaint does not say if Cook was in a marked or an undercover police vehicle.
No one got out of the Honda. About five minutes later, a young girl — who appeared to be 12 or 13 years old — walked over to the Honda and got inside. Cook observed the girl kissing the driver of the car — who appeared to be between 16 and 18 years old — before both occupants got into the back seat and began performing a sexual act, according to the complaint.
Cook approached the vehicle to talk to the occupants because the girl appeared so young. Both teens got out of the car and the girl told the officer she was 13 and that the driver — later identified as Turcios Posadas — knew her age, the complaint states.
Turcios Posadas had his first appearance in court Friday. He is being held on $25,000 bail. A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the girl
