A Coralville man was arrested Friday on charges that he shot and injured two people July 20 on the downtown Iowa City Pedestrian Mall.
Iziah Anthony James Poulsen, 23, is charged with two counts of reckless use of a firearm causing bodily injury, and one count each of reckless use of a firearm causing property damage, control of a firearm by a felon, going armed with intent, participating in a riot, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to inflict serious injury.
According to a criminal complaint, Poulsen shot multiple times into a crowded area just before 1 a.m. July 20. He had been involved in a fight with two other individuals earlier that night, and he left the area before returning with a gun.
Two of his shots hit people, one going through a taco cart and hitting an employee’s hand. The complaint doesn’t say where he shot the other person, but does state the individual was unarmed. He also shot at and pistol whipped another unarmed person who tried to disarm him, the complaint states.
A warrant was issued for Poulsen’s arrest July 29 and he was arrested Friday. He had his first appearance in court Monday and he was being held on a $200,000 cash-only bail in the Johnson County Jail.
