CEDAR RAPIDS — The man sentenced to life in prison for the April 10 shooting death of Michael Valentine inside the Taboo Nightclub & Lounge in downtown Cedar Rapids is appealing to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Dimione Walker, 29, of Coralville, was convicted of first-degree murder in November. Jurors also found him guilty of going armed with intent and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The verdict was returned in less than 90 minutes, which is the shortest deliberation in recent years for a Linn County murder.
Earlier this month, Walker was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Walker was advised of his right to appeal to the Supreme Court within 30 days of the Dec. 16 sentencing order.
Walker and his attorney officially filed the notice of appeal on Tuesday, according to online court records.
Ten people were injured during the club shooting. Another man, Timothy Rush, 33, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with killing Nicole Owens, 35, and Marvin L. Cox, 31, inside the club the same night. Rush’s trial is set for March 28.
