Jan. 2, 2019 11:43 am
A Cedar Rapids man is accused of forgery after he allegedly cashed a fraudulent check for more than $2,500.
According to the criminal complaint, police officers were dispatched to Five Seasons Auto Rebuilders on Bever Avenue SE after receiving a report that someone fraudulently cashed a check for $2,590 from the auto shop's account on November 1.
Through their investigation, police said they identified Wayne R. Canterbury, 41, from video surveillance at Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust that allegedly showed Canterbury cashing the fraudulent check.
Canterbury faces a charge of Forgery, a class-D felony.
Court records indicate Canterbury was previously charged with forgery on Dec. 8. That charge stems from a similar incident in which Canterbury allegedly cashed a forged check for $2,760 from the account of Modern Piping on November 2.
