Collins recreational center in Cedar Rapids evacuated after threat Monday morning

Collins Aerospace Recreational Center was evacuated for approximately 90 minutes Monday morning after police said a 'vague” threat was called into the facility.

Public Safety Spokesperson Greg Buelow said an anonymous call came into the rec center at about 8:15 a.m. The caller, Buelow said, reported an explosive device had been placed inside the building. Approximately 75 employees were evacuated.

A statement from Collins Aerospace said the threat was made to buildings 153 and 154, which house the recreation center as well as a pharmacy, the Telehealth Clinic, physical therapy offices and office space.

'We can confirm that employees and others in the buildings were evacuated while police conducted their investigation,” the statement said. 'At approximately 10 a.m., authorities confirmed there was no active threat and employees were allowed to return to work. Collins Aerospace places great emphasis on workplace safety and we are continuing to review and assess the situation.”

Buelow confirmed that Cedar Rapids police responded, and that no suspicious devices were. The evacuation, he said, was conducted as a precaution. Buelow said the incident remains under investigation.
