City Park Pool opening delayed

IOWA CITY - The City Park Pool will not open Memorial Day weekend because of unseasonably cold temperatures last winter and this spring.
A Thursday news release from the city said the opening - which usually occurs Memorial Day weekend - has been pushed back to June 7.
Aquatics Supervisor Matthew Eckhardt said preparations to open the pool have been slowed because of lower temperatures.
The release said that, because of the pool's age, those preparations are extensive. The City Park Pool opened in 1949.
The pool went through a renovation project over the winter and spring, and, when it opens in June it will feature:
l An ADA-compliant wading pool
l An expanded fence line to accommodate more people who want to sunbathe
l A picnic table area for food and drinks near the pool
Although the City Park Pool is the only outdoor swimming facility in Iowa City, the city's two splash pads - at Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Dr. and Fairmeadows Park, 2500 Miami Dr. - will open Saturday, May 24.
