CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Tuesday on charges that she stole almost $25,000 from her father, a dependent adult for whom she was caretaker.
Danielle Mahan, 37, is charged with first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse.
According to a criminal complaint, she was a caretaker for her dad, William McGee, between January 2024 and January 2025. During that time, there was about $26,294.84 deposited in McGee’s bank account from social security and his veteran’s affairs benefits, and about $24,533.64 was taken out in cash withdrawals.
Mahan was making the cash withdrawals, and was spending about $1,000 of that money each month on illegal drugs, the complaint states. The complaint does not indicate how she used the rest of the money.
A warrant was issued for her arrest on July 18 and she was taken into custody Tuesday. As of Wednesday morning she had not yet had a first appearance in court and information about her bond was not available.
