A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Sunday after police say she shot a man several times.
Quintoria Baker, 37, is charged with domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, and willful injury causing serious injury.
According to a criminal complaint, Baker shot Quincy Harris, 32, several times, leaving him with eight gunshot wounds — three bullet holes in his left leg, one in his right leg, two in the left side of his abdomen, and two in his left forearm. He was treated on scene and taken to a hospital for possible surgical attention, and police believe his injuries are not life-threatening.
Harris told police that she and Baker had been living together in the Budget Inn at 3100 16th Ave. SW for about a month, and they were arguing Sunday evening when Baker threw a gun on the bed and told her to shoot him. She admitted to officers that she shot at Baker two separate times, the second as he was starting to get up after the first, according to the complaint.
“The defendant reportedly claimed it was self-defense but the investigator who interviewed her reported that based on the defendant’s statement it did not appear that the alleged victim was an immediate threat that necessitated the firing of multiple rounds,” the complaint states.
Police responded to the scene at 6:42 p.m. Sunday and arrested Baker, who is being held in the Linn County Jail. Information about her first appearance in court and bond were not yet available Monday morning.
