CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Thursday on charges that she shot a gun at the ground multiple times to intimidate people around her.
Madison Demaria, 24, is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, reckless use of a firearm and disorderly conduct.
According to court documents, Demaria shot a gun at the ground Feb. 8 while standing next to her white Jeep sport utility vehicle in the 200 block of Second Street SE in downtown Cedar Rapids.
The SUV was parked in the middle of the road and was being surrounded and kicked by several other people, according to a criminal complaint and a warrant request filed in the case.
A police officer on patrol heard the shots fired, and was able to get cellphone video from an employee at Need Pizza, which showed a woman shooting the ground four times and then getting in the driver’s seat in the Jeep, according to the warrant request.
Police searched footage from the city’s recently installed license plate reader cameras to find the plate number of the Jeep, which was registered to Demaria, who looked like the woman in the video and had made a social media post in which she was wearing the same clothes.
A warrant was issued March 14 for Demaria’s arrest and she was booked Thursday into the Linn County Jail. She had her first appearance Friday and was released after posting a $5,000 bail.
