Cedar Rapids woman charged with murder, domestic abuse

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Friday on a charges of second-degree murder and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon during domestic abuse for the killing last month of the father of one of her children.
Charmisha Pirtle, 30, is accused of the murder of Anthony Fitts, 29, of Cedar Rapids. Fitts died at a hospital after police found him injured Jan. 24 outside an apartment building at 1258 15th St. SE.
Fitts’s cause of death has not been released by police. A a criminal complaint with more information about what led to the charges was not available Friday.
According to a Nov. 10, 2020 court filing, Fitts was “legally established as the father” of a child born to Pirtle in 2019. He was ordered to pay child support, but enforcement was put on hold because he was in jail at the time.
