CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids teenager is accused of “recklessly” shooting a stolen gun at other people Saturday, according to a criminal complaint, in the location of the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy that same day.
On Monday, Antwan Steward, 16, was charged in adult court with trafficking in stolen weapons, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, reckless use of a firearm and being a minor armed with a dangerous weapon.
A criminal complaint states that on Saturday, he used a firearm stolen out of Johnson County to shoot multiple times at others, which caused damage to nearby apartment buildings and vehicles at 1640 F Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids.
The complaint doesn’t state whether he hit any people while shooting.
Police said on Saturday they were investigating the shooting death of a boy in the same area. Monday, they provided the age of the boy — 16 years old — but gave no other details of what led to his death.
According to the police, officers found the boy suffering from gunshot wounds in the 1600 block of F Avenue NW shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Several people had called 911 to report shots being fired in the area. The boy died at the scene.
Police would not say whether Steward’s arrest was related to the incident.
